Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, USA, developed a new messenger app for iOS and Android based smartphones. As stated by developers, SafeSlinger allows sharing data without putting them at risk of being compromised. Furthermore, the messenger allows avoiding fraudulence.
“SafeSlinger provides you with the confidence that the person you are communicating with is actually the person they have represented themselves to be,” stated Michael W. Farb, a research programmer at Carnegie Mellon CyLab. “The most important feature is that SafeSlinger provides secure messaging and file transfer without trusting the phone company or any device other than my own smartphone.”
According to Adrian Perrig, researcher at ETH in Switzerland, the team managed to achieve this sort of protection of confidentiality due to end-to-end encryption that secure messages being encrypted until recipients get them.
Moreover, one of the messenger's developers Yue -Hsun Lin tols that the majority of messengers still send unencrypted and unauthorized messages. “SafeSlinger protects message secrecy and authenticity against network threats through modern cryptography, but still keeps a simple user experience like today's messenger apps.”
