ABC channel reported that Chinese hackers managed to steal secret plans of the new headquarters of the Australian Intelligence (ASIO). In particular, the stolen documents contained information about ASIO building's communication cable layouts, server locations and security systems.
According to some reports, the information was stolen from the servers of the Australian intelligence contractor. Cybersecurity experts from the Australian National University said that in the future these details about headquarters, can be used to host eavesdropping equipment.
Australian General Attorney Mark Dreyfus refused to confirm the information that is published in the press.
The Australian foreign minister, Bob Carr said: “I won't comment on whether the Chinese have done what is being alleged or not. I won't comment on matters of intelligence and security for the obvious reason: we don't want to share with the world and potential aggressors what we know about what they might be doing, and how they might be doing it.”
Some political parties in Australia have asked to investigate the incident properly.
