The Ohio District Court, USA has sentenced 23-year-old hacker Todd Miller to one year of house arrest and three years probation for attack against Sony’s PlayStation Network.
Miller could face more serious charges but the hacker was able to avoid the severe punishment after destroying the key evidence. Miller faced a potential punishment of up to 20 years in prison and $250,000.
When FBI first came to Miller’s house, he didn’t allow them to come in as they didn’t have a search warrant. After that hacker destroyed all hard drives, which were the main evidence.
The authorities failed to bring charges against Miller. So he was punished for destroying evidence, not the hack itself.
