Reuters deputy social media editor Matthew Keys was dismissed because of his collaboration with Anonymous.
Thomson Reuters spokesman David Girardin confirmed the information but did not provide any details.
March 2013 Keys was indicted by a federal grand jury in Sacramento, Calif., on three criminal counts alleging that he helped members of the Anonymous to hack into computer systems of the Tribune Co. Keys pleaded not guilty.
When police initiated the investigation Keys was temporarily suspended form work with his official microblog on Twitter and his corporate e-mail.
However, Keys states that the charges against him are baseless. He claimed that his former employer said he was fired because of covering the Boston attack as the Reuters editor.
