It’s been almost a month since Internet users discovered a possibility that Microsoft will introduce two-factor authentication when logging into accounts.
Despite the fact that the corporation silently switched back to the account renaming feature, the possibility of appearance of two-factor authentication still exists.
After new mechanism is introduced, when logging into Microsoft account from any devices or apps (with the exception of devices added to your trusted PC list) the user will have to enter not only the password, but also a special security code randomly generated by an Authenticator app on the device.
By the way, the Authenticator app is already available on Windows Phone Store.
“The Authenticator app generates security codes you can use to help keep your Microsoft account secure. You can add your Microsoft account to the app by scanning a barcode or by manually entering a secret key. The app implements industry-standard security code generation and may also work with other services and providers. You can learn more about keeping your Microsoft account secure at https://account.live.com/p,” – claims website.
Microsoft security experts also developed function “app password” for the devices that do not support two-factor authentication. To log in the user will only have to generate a password in the online-app on Microsoft website.
