Microsoft, Nokia and Oracle: Google violates antitrust laws

European antitrust regulators have received a formal complaint against the mobile operating system Android.

The group of companies under the name Fairsearch Europe, which includes Microsoft, Nokia and Oracle, claims that Google is using its Android mobile operating system "as a deceptive way to build advantages for key Google apps in 70 percent of the smartphones shipped today."

The lead lawyer for Fairsearch Europe Thomas Vinje said that smartphone makers who agree to use Android and such applications, like YouTube, are required to comply with agreement requirements to place those applications and other Google-branded applications in the most favorable locations on the mobile device’s desktop.

The European Union’s antitrust chief Joaquín Almunia has not commented on the situation. Google spokeswoman was also unable to explain the problem, saying only that the matter will be negotiated.

Fairsearch Europe also accused Google of monopolizing the search market in mobile devices leaving the users no option. EU commission is already considering the complaint.
