The researchers from "Kaspersky Lab" have discovered a malicious program which infected computers in the Middle East. The virus, known as Gauss, was detected during the course of the ongoing effort initiated by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), following the discovery of Flame.
According to "Kaspersky Lab", Gauss by its structure resembles virus flame. Gauss targets Windows-based computers, and steals bank cards numbers, passwords and other financial information. Experts say the virus created in mid-2011 and deployed for the first time in August-September 2011.
Two thousand computers in the Middle East fell victims of the new cyber-weapons. Most of them were located in Lebanon. Gauss affected the customers of Citibank and of the payment system Paypal.
