Twitter turned over to the NYPD the data of the user who promised to attack people at the Broadway theatre where Mike Tyson's one-man show is playing. At first the social network rejected the police’s requirement for the information, but after the subpoena was provided by the court, Twitter had to comply.
The NYPD Intelligence Division got to know about the threat on August 3 and used Twitter's system for emergencies to request the identity of the account user, who posted the following message: “This s**t ain't no joke yo I'm serious people are gonna die just like in aurora.”
“Twitter turned us down, so we dispatched police to cover the theater while we sought a subpoena to force Twitter to disclose the identity of the account holder”, explained NYPD spokesman Paul Browne.
Now that the police has the needed data, the investigation will continue. Twitter, which initially said that there was no real emergency, refused to provide any comment.
