According to Zecurion Analytics firm payment processor Global Payments has evaluated it’s losses due to the information leak that took place last February.
Investigation of the incident process and client compensation payments cost the company solid $84 million. Next year the company will have to pay another pile of cash, worth approximately $25-35 million.
The leaked data of 1.5 million MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover Financial Services users allows cybercrooks to create twin cards and steal money of their owners. Global Payments’ board of directors claimed that personal info, e.g. names and addresses were not leaked during the incident.
“Global Payments suffers considerable losses. After the incident the company will be highly encouraged to protect its data. Our observation indicates that such situation often occurs in business. Protection of confidential data is secondary priority until a large-scale incident occurs” – states Zecurion CEO Vladinir Ulianov.
