Reuters, citing its own sources, said that European Union might impose a fine on Microsoft Corporation for competition law violation. U.S. based company faced accusations of failing commitments in October last year. In October 2009 Microsoft claimed it would provide European users with the choice of a ‘web-browser by default’ when installing the operating system.
“The commission is planning to fine Microsoft before the Easter break”, - claimed Reuters’ sources.
The size of the fine may be quite large since the company received the warning from the EU competition regulators for the second time. So far, Microsoft reps did not comment on the situation.
Earlier company said that the possibility to choose the browser when installing OS disappeared after the release of the update for Windows Vista and Windows 7. According to Microsoft, it was a “technical error” and not a deliberate action.
