Ubisoft patch critical Uplay vulnerability

Ubisoft patch critical Uplay vulnerability

Video games developer company Ubisoft has issued patch to a critical vulnerability of its browser plug-in for Uplay. The plug-in allowed a remote hacker run arbitrary application using a specially crafted webpage. Fans of UbisoftТs games use Uplay as in game rewards and connection system.

The vulnerability was discovered by Google security researcher Tavis Ormandy. "We have made a forced patch to correct the flaw in the browser plug-in for the Uplay PC application that was brought to our attention earlier today. We recommend that all Uplay users update their Uplay PC application without a web browser open. This will allow the plug-in to update correctly." Ц said Ubisoft in its statement according to ZDNet.

Company said that Patch for the plugin that will update Uplay client to version 2.0.4 is available from Uplay.com.

Game company also denies reports that Uplay contained rootkit: "The issue is not a rootkit. The Uplay application has never included a rootkit. The issue was from a browser plug-in that Uplay PC utilises which suffered from a coding error that allowed systems usually used by Ubisoft PC game developers to make their games," - said the company contact person.
