Dr. Web discovers new cross platform Trojan

Dr. Web discovers new cross platform Trojan

AV vendor Dr. Web has discovered a new cross platform Trojan called BackDoor.DaVinci.1. According to researchers virus can compromise both Windows and Mac OS X systems. Furthermore the malware contains a special bomb module that can destroy an OS installation completely.

The virus sample, that is being distributed as AdobeFlashPlayer.jar file, was found 23 July. Analysis showed that after it penetrated a system the malware checks it’s platform and after that it loads and boots specific set of files.

“At this moment Dr. Web experts are in possession of backdoor samples for OS Windows and Mac OS X platform. Besides that we have information on mobile platform threat” Ц experts note.

BackDoor.DaVinci.1 is capable of saving and sending cybercooks data on the infected machine, logging key strokes, coping display image, intercepting messages of IM services and even gather data from microphone and webcam.

A characteristic feature of the virus is the fact that its Mac OS X set of files contains a rootkit module. Dr. Web experts consider it to be the first Mac OS X-based malware to feature rootkit, but as Naked-Security informed yesterday, Intego also found a Trojan Ц Crisis Ц that can evade AV detection mechanism using it’s rootkit capabilities.

Dr. Web advisory is accessible here.
