The founder of poker site stole $ 430 million operating a Ponzi scheme

The founder of poker site stole $ 430 million operating a Ponzi scheme

The founder of Full Tilt Poker, who was engaged in gambling, was arrested and charged with the creation of financial Ponzi scheme, which allowed him to allegedly seize millions of dollars from players.

Raymond Bitar, founder and CEO of Full Tilt Poker, was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. According to Bitar’s lawyers, the defendant has returned to the U.S. from Ireland voluntarily.

"I know that a lot of people are very angry at me," Bitar said in the statement. "I understand why. Full Tilt should never have gotten into a position where it could not repay player funds."

Bitar explained that for the last 15 month, he was looking for a possible solution that will help to repay the debt to the players. His return to the United States is an important step in this direction, and in the nearest future, all the players will get their money back.

The Justice Department claimed that Biter lied to the Full Tilt Poker customers about the safety of their money. Full Tilt has to return $ 350 million to the players worldwide, while the company's assets are only $ 60 - $ 70 million to cover the payments. More than $ 430 million, which belonged to the players, were distributed among the owners of Full Tilt, including Biter.

Biter is charged with gambling, bank fraud, and money laundering offenses and faces up to 145 years in prison if convicted of all the charges.
