Malware writers develop pricing system

Malware writers develop pricing system

Trusteer experts say that for the last several months hackers have been deploying an “a la carte” pricing system, which allows their customers to choose specific functional they need to use. The pricing options can add or remove great piles of money from the price of malware the cyber crook is about to buy.

"Criminals are no longer bound by rigid malware configurations designed to conduct specific exploits at specific institutions," Trusteer research says.

The malware writers offer customized versions of common attack instruments such as Zeus to harvest user data. While choosing the infection customers may choose e.g. a specific exploit they want to use or extract specific information they need. "Criminals can now specify the precise exploit and target institution that they believe will maximise their ability to successfully commit fraud.", - said Trusteer experts.

As a result, researchers point out, information security experts face a new type of cybercriminals, armed with specialized high-priced attack instruments.

Trusteer research results are accessible here.
