Law enforcement agencies will use Microsoft PhotoDNA technology to fight child pornography

Law enforcement agencies will use Microsoft PhotoDNA technology to fight child pornography

Microsoft is going to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in order to help them to fight child pornography. The company will make Microsoft PhotoDNA image matching technology available to law enforcement at no cost. The technology will help to carry out child sex abuse investigations. It will empower authorities to identify and rescue the victims and bring abusers to justice.

PhotoDNA technology was developed by Microsoft Research and Dartmouth College. It provides a unique signature for a digital image, which can be compared with the signatures of other images to find copies of that image. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), internet service providers, Microsoft and Facebook are using PhotoDNA to find, report and eliminate images of child pornography online.

Providing law enforcement agencies with PhotoDNA technology, Microsoft aims at strengthening their ability to identify and rescue victims and block child abusers in the Internet.
