Sabu cooperated with FBI immediately after his arrest

Hacker Hector Xavier Monsegur, known as Sabu, cooperated with FBI immediately after he was arrested in June. He helped the investigators to catch five other participants of the hacking group LulzSec.

U.S. authorities arrested Monsegur on June 7, the next day he was released on $50,000 bond. It should be mentioned that he was charged with 12 computer crimes in cases presented in four different American states. The cases were later consolidated in New York. Hacker pleaded himself guilty of each of the 12 crimes.

Monsegur made his confession after signing a cooperation agreement with the government. Under terms of agreement U.S. authorities agreed not to charge the hacker with some crimes he allegedly committed as long as he obeyed the terms of his plea deal.

Besides computer crimes Monsegur was also connected to some petty crime and drugs. In 2011 he tried to sell five pounds of marijuana, and in 2010 he owned a handgun that was not allowed in New York state.

Prosecutor stated that for Monsegur’s cooperation with U.S. authorities they would recommend a more lenient prison term but he still has to obey the terms of the deal.
