Hackers stole Michael Jacksons music catalogue from Sony

Hackers stole Michael Jacksons music catalogue from Sony

Hackers stole Michael Jackson’s music catalogue from Sony Music. 50,000 music files have been illegally downloaded.

Sony paid Jackson $250m for the catalogue in 2010. This deal was one of the biggest ones in the history of music industry and it gave Sony the rights to sell Jacksons whole back catalogue as well as previously unreleased tracks.

The hackers arrested in May 2011 under accusations of security breach appeared in court on March 2, 2012. They claimed that they were not guilty and denied charges under the Computer Misuse Act and the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act at Leicester crown court. The court released them on bail and they are to stand trial in January 2013.

The information about Jacksons files being stolen comes less than a year after an “illegal and unauthorized person” got access to personal data of about 77 million users with accounts on Sonys PlayStation Network.

Representatives of Sony Music didnt provide any comments on the latest alleged hacking incident.
