Megaupload founder remains a free man

Megaupload founder remains a free man

The US Government failed in an attempt to bring the Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom back to jail.

American Government wanted Dotcom back in jail because after his release last week his two bank accounts, containing $2000, had been discovered. Crown prosecutor Anne Toohey also told that Dotcom might have access to forged travel documents. American authorities thought that all of these were enough to have the Megaupload founder back in prison.

Paul Davison, Dotcom’s representative in court, claimed that all allegations were irrelevant because his client had no intent to flee New Zealand, as his wife would shortly give birth to twins.

Judge denied the prosecutions appeal and allowed Dotcom to stay free until an extradition hearing in August 2012.

It should be mentioned that in court Dotcom and his wife asked for permission to have access to $185,130 to pay rent of their mansion, security guards and other household staffs services. The money would also cover substantial telephone costs incurred as Dotcom prepares his defense against extradition.

Dotcom was arrested January 20, 2012 after his home and business in New Zealand was raided by police. U.S. authorities are accusing Megaupload.com of providing illegal access to films, music and other copyrighted content.
