Microsoft warned about possible financial information leak

Microsoft warned about possible financial information leak

Microsoft told its customers that their personal financial information could have been leaked during the hacking attack on one of its websites that took place earlier this month. Cybercrooks could have obtained financial information such as bank account and credit card numbers from the Microsoft Store India.

The earlier Microsoft advisory said that hackers stole only user credentials and described the incident as a "limited compromise". Service provider that runs the site was criticized due to poor security measures, such as keeping essential data in plain text.

"Upon further detailed investigation of the third-party service provider managing Microsoft Store India, Microsoft has determined that financial information may have been exposed for some online store customers. We have notified all potentially impacted customers and have provided additional guidance and resources to help protect their accounts" Ц said the company in its statement.

Those behind the hack of Microsoft Store India call themselves EvilShadow Team. They claim they wished to get attention of the software giant and put an image of China's flag on the main page.
