Google will give $1 million for Chrome hacking

Google will give $1 million for Chrome hacking

The sum of prizes, varying from $60,000, $40,000 to $20,000, will depend on the severity of exploits that hackers will demonstrate on computers operating Windows 7. There will be no splitting of winnings. The prizes will be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis until the $1 million threshold is reached.

Pwn2Own 2012 is the sixth contest already, but still Chrome remains the only browser, which has been never brought down. Several contestants claim that the only difficulty is in bypassing Google’s security sandbox.

Members of the Google Chrome security team Chris Evans and Justin Schuh said that without exploits itТs harder for the company to learn and improve. “To maximize our chances of receiving exploits this year, weТve upped the ante. We will directly sponsor up to $1 million worth of rewards,” they wrote.

Google also planned to be a sponsor of the Pwn2Own contest, but it changed its decision because according to the new rules hackers are allowed to collect prize without revealing the full details of the vulnerabilities to browser makers.
