British ISPs might block The Pirate Bay

British ISPs might block The Pirate Bay

UK high court ruled that filesharing site The Pirate Bay and its users unlawfully shared copyrighted music. Mr Justice Arnold stated that despite the judicial findings that have been made against the operators of the Pirate Bay, they took no steps to prevent infringement. “On the contrary…they actively encourage it and treat any attempts to prevent it (judicial or otherwise) with contempt” Mr Justice Arnold said.

The British Phonographic Industry, which initiated the trial against The Pirate Bay, wants internet service providers (ISPs) in Britain to block the access of their users to the filesharing service. It is planned that the high court will rule in June whether the ISPs should prevent their customers from accessing The Pirate Bay.

The Pirate Bay is one of the biggest filesharing services in the world. Last year it made 4m copies of music and films available to its 30 million users around the world. According to comScore, there are 3.7 million users of the filesharing service in UK.

Chief executive of the British Phonographic Industry Geoff Taylor claims that the Pirate Bay defrauds musicians and causes damage to the music industry and wider creative industries. Taylor also said that the music groups in the UK would try to have the site blocked Уto protect the UK’s creative industries from further harmФ.
